Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)

Sean Ono Lennon, the son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, had a lot of things going for him before he even picked up the guitar. But that didn't mean he slacked off when it came to music - on the contrary, is newest album, Friendly Fire, is stronger than his previous, Into the Sun released in 1998, and began touring to support it last year. So far, this has brought him to San Francisco three times since October 2006, twice headlining and once supporting Rufus Wainwright. I caught two shows, one at the Great American Music Hall, where I took the above photo, and one at the Nob Hill Masonic, where I met him after the show. He's a great guy - made it a very memorable experience.

This was recorded in Milano, Italy on February 12th, 2006, and broadcast in April. One good thing about Sean's performances live when he's headlining is you can count on a tiny venue - which is how we got a front row spot. These small, intimate shows are the absolute best way to see him perform. Not that larger venues keep him from playing well, in fact, he still honored my request & added his hilarious comments during the Wainwright show. They keep coming on this recording, and it's my absoulte favorite of the tour.

Set list:
1. Spectacle
2. Dead Meat
3. Parachute
4. Wait For Me
5. Smoke & Mirrors
6. Friendly Fire
7. Band Intro
8. Falling Out of Love
9. On Again Off Again
10. Headlights
11. Would I Be the One?
12. Tomorrow (solo)
13. Into the Void (intro)/Mystery Juice

Or Be a Slave to the System

Thought I'd start out with a Jeff Buckley bootleg that has been lounging in my library for some time.

This was recorded 3 days before Jeff's last show in New York, on February 4th, 1997 (If anyone knows where I can find his last show at Arlene's Grocery, the farewell to New York show, I'd love to have it). Gary Lucas joins him on guitar for Grace.

The recording itself is stellar, the man beautiful, and song choice reminiscent of My Sweetheart the Drunk. His audience banter is good, but quite different from what's on the Live at Sin-e Legacy Edition. He sounds more laid-back, not as quick. The audience doesn't respond to his "I'm just being an ass-hole" comment like they did "I am a ridiculous person" at Sin-e. Maybe thats the reason he seems a bit rattled - he isn't headlining and the audience doesn't recognize his songs like they did during the Grace tour.

Its more likely that he's high, however. Luckily this doesn't affect his amazing voice, and only increases his experimentation.

Track listing:

1. Intro/Lover You Should Have Come Over
2. Song Twenty-One (Jewel Box)
3. Morning Theft
4. Grace
5. The Sky Is A Landfill
6. Everybody Here Wants You
7. Very Sexy

Welcome!

Hello and welcome! My blog may not seem like much now, but I hope within the next few weeks to start accumulating music from my meager archives. I'll focus on bootlegs and hard-to-find, or out of print, albums. Feel free to suggest artists or recordings I might not have heard of, and I'll do my best to find them.

As of now, torrents are far and away the easiest way to upload files for me, if you would like files via rapidshare, please let me know. If my torrent files are not being seeded, feel free to comment & yell at me.

On the personal side, I'll be making a big move next week cross country, from California to upstate New York to start college. I'm hoping I can find musicians & music lovers with similar tastes as I on campus, as I do not have a car and would love to explore the Woodstock area or make a trek into NYC for shows. Heres to happy blogging!
